August 27th was the day of the Veteran Motor Car Club of America benefit car show at Muscle Car City in Punta Gorda Florida. In spite of the summer heat there was a terrific turnout with representatives from a number of specialty car clubs.
The entirety of the entry fees were donated to the PGHS project to move the Quednau-Hindman House to the Punta Gorda History Park and to establish it as a youth activity museum. In addition, the public showed great support to our fundraising raffles.
Best of Show went to this fine red 1947 Cadillac owned by Frank Shulman. Louis Desguin of the PGHS is seen presenting the trophy.

And, being best of show was a real accomplishment and a tough call by the judges. The mixture was eclectic with Street Rods, Luxury Cars, Muscle Cars and real Antiques.

With so many cars from so many periods, there was a lot of contrast in the interiors. From 50s chrome to the elegance of Rolls Royce walnut.

The muscle cars and street rods showed their own contrasting approach. The street rods were simple while the muscle cars had their own embellishments.

Hood ornaments have gone the way of the Dodo, replaced by flat mounted logos. But, there was a time when they were the crown on the hood. They sure don’t make them like the old Dodge Ram but, the Rolls Royce maintains their Spirit of Ecstasy.

Street Rods provide a lot of personal expression in a car that is made just for fun.

But, none of this happens without the VMCCA and the PGHS Volunteers who arrive early and stay late to create a successful event.

Of course, not every car is completely restored, there are always a few works in progress and even a few just waiting to get started while others are just waiting for their turn to be shown in the museum at Muscle Car City.
